Action Research Process
Workshop Title:
Action Research for Educational Change -
Teachers as Action Researchers
Facilitators: Mrs. Desiree Antonio Mrs. Karen Browne-Francis
Ms. Ineta Francis Mrs. Paula Spencer
Workshop Description:
The main aim of this workshop is to explore participants’ knowledge of action research and develop the skills/competencies needed to engage in action research (AR). Participants in the workshop should be able to examine the teaching learning environment and identify factors affecting or contributing to every learner achieving. Having identified the factors they should be able to utilize the action research process to develop and implement a plan for improving the teaching learning environment to address the ‘wonderings’.
Skills, knowledge, attitudes:
1.
Make evidence-based decisions
using data
2.
Determining factors /conditions for action research
3.
Developing the skills and
competencies of the teacher as an action researcher
4.
Understand the value of action
research in becoming a reflective
practitioner
Participants’ Objectives:
1.
Promote the use of action
research in their practice
2.
Acquire knowledge of the action
research process
3.
Generate an action research
proposal indicating a timeline signifying milestones to be attained

ReplyDeleteThis session was great. An excellent refresher for me. I enjoyed the fact that the presenters modeled different teaching styles and the Activities were great. The presentations by Ms. Francis and of course Mrs. Spencer was dynamic.

ReplyDeleteA great session indeed Bernard. I especially enjoyed the fruit basket grouping arrangement. It was something different from the usual. The presenters were great. Based on the group presentations made, I felt that we all need to do some additional research in order to get a better understanding of Action Research so that we can become competent in undertaking action research in our schools.Keep up the great work all.
ReplyDeleteI strongly agree with you Temika..
DeleteI agree withh Temika as well. The session fostered team work to a great extent, thus reflecting that action research involves a team, regardless of the composition, in order to bring about change.
DeleteDear participants, please note that some resources from the Action Research Training have been loaded. The chapter from Elliott (1991) provides a clear account of the process. Also, please see 3 articles which each provides different approaches to action research. When compared, you will find common characteristics.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes.
I took the time to go through the video presentation that was attached; it made clearer what was discussed during the session. I have began to formulate a research question to address a concern which I have. The session was very informative and the knowledge gained will be useful.
DeleteMrs Teague, It will become clearer when you actually systematically engage in the process. See my comment below to Ms Greene. Best wishes
DeleteI really enjoyed this session on Action Research. It was interesting to share knowledge and skills in this area among colleagues. I must say that from beginning to end the facilitators guided us well! I am looking forward for the next session.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed the session Mrs Roberts. Best wishes as you move closer to completing your portfolio.
DeleteThank you.
DeleteI enjoyed every minute of the session on Action Research. During the last presentation however, there should have been more time so that adequate feedback could be given. Although Action Research was fully explored, I walked away with some questions pertaining to the examples of that were offered by some of the other groups. Anyway as Mrs.Spencer rightly stated at the beginning of her presentation; disequilibrium is always a good thing as I was forced to engage in additional readings to put everything into perspective. I am looking forward to the next session.
ReplyDeleteMs Greene,
DeleteI am glad you found the AR session enjoyable. I am also thinking that by now you have reviewed the information we posted and have done some further research. There is so much in the literature about AR and authors do have different interpretations as well. All this is in keeping with the practice of not just being consumers of knowledge but producers creating our own knowledge as we learn and develop and also become practitioner researchers. Best wishes. D Antonio
